Simple Safety Tips On Gator Hunting

By Daphne Bowen

People can immerse themselves with many hobbies. One of the rare and exotic hobbies that people can get into is gator hunting in Louisiana. This is where alligators are being hunted. The hunting can be very exciting and thrilling, as well as fulfilling whenever you get your prey. You must follow the rules and regulations for this particular hunt though.

As the hunter, be aware that this hunt means dealing with extremely dangerous prey. If you are hunting, then you better prepare yourself for the various dangers which you are exposing yourself to. You must be extremely careful so that you do not receive injuries or even fatalities. Here are some precautionary guidelines to remember in the hunt.

First, you have to learn when to retreat. As much as possible, you are to keep away from the alligators. A distance of at least 30 feet should be more than enough to give you a leeway to get away from whenever the person is in danger. If one gets too close, then one must back away slowly. An alligator is not sluggish and slow. They can really chase people, especially when they are cornered.

Be wary of this animal when it hisses. Just like any reptile, this animal can hiss whenever it feels that it is in danger. When you hear the alligator hiss, then that is a warning sign to pay attention to already. That means that an individual is getting way too near. One must back away slowly then.

Be more wary of female alligators that are protecting the nests. These are the ones who are more aggressive and they can quickly advance toward you to attack when they feel like their young is going to be in danger. It is imperative to stay away from the female alligators then. Stay away from small alligators as well to avoid getting attacked by their mother.

This wild animal loves to bask itself under the sun, especially when it is not hunting actively. You can easily determine which alligator is basking under the sun by observing the mouth. If this animal is at the banks of streams or ponds with its mouth open wide, then that is an alligator basking under the heat of the sun.

Do not bring a pet with you. Even if the pet is one you always bring with you like a dog or a cat, you should just leave them at home whenever one is hunting for the alligator. Such pets are just the shape and size of a prey alligators go after. If one must bring them, keep them away from the water's edge

Even when the person is not hunting and just encountered this reptile, you have to be wary of what you do. You have to remember the right thing to do for such a situation so that the said animal does not attack you. For example, when fishing, you should just let the reptile take your bait or fish. After that, you can just move to a new location.

There are still a lot of safety tips that you should remember whenever the person encounters this wild animal. Note that these animals are very dangerous. You must keep your guard up with them around if one wants to stay safe.
